But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs more, I'd expect higher quality.

This fridge is a good option, despite the slight blip. It has a huge freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French-door refrigerators. It also holds a lot of frozen food compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is typical for a French-door fridge at this price. It also has a decent sized ice maker packed into the left-hand door, although it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to create a a custom storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is attractive, too. The LED lighting adds an appealing feature. The storage bins in the door come with a third shelf that can be folded down to store large items. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and shut, but I found the plastic's textured coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the all the features you'd expect from a fridge at this price that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It also alerts you when doors are left open, when the fridge or freezer needs defrosting and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be great if GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill the option that is that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to select the amount of cups they wish to dispense. The fridge displays a countdown timer to reveal how much water is left but it's not as helpful as Precise fill.

This fridge was rated as the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and never fluctuating more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to avoiding freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also did well. It reached the initial temperature within a matter of hours, and maintained the temperature throughout our tests.

In my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across all areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't stray very far from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a good performance, but doesn't quite make it to the top of our rankings.
